Kaushik reviews tunnel rescue from SEOC, Rs 4 lakh compensation announced for each deceased

DEHRADUN, 14 Aug: Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Minister Madan Kaushik reached the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) this morning and reviewed the relief and rescue operations following the THDC tunnel incident at Peepalkoti in Chamoli. Very significantly, he also announced that the families of those who died in the incident would be provided compensation of Rs 4 lakhs, each.

Kaushik claimed that the state government is standing firmly with the affected families and would extend all possible assistance. He reminded that Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had personally visited the site and also met the injured at the hospital to take stock of their condition.

After reviewing the situation at the SEOC, Kaushik directed the officials to ensure proper treatment and all necessary medical facilities for the injured and to make arrangements for transporting the bodies of the deceased to their respective native places with due respect. He also directed that the search and rescue operation for the missing persons be continued with full seriousness and better coordination among all agencies involved.

Kaushik also sought information about the weather forecast for the coming days and directed the officials to take all necessary precautionary measures in view of the anticipated weather conditions. He also reviewed the water levels of rivers and directed officials to maintain continuous vigil in vulnerable areas.
