Radha Raturi directs officials to prepare effective database of landslide information

Dehradun, 14 Aug: Chief Secretary Radha Raturi today issued instructions to the officials concerned to prepare an effective database of landslide related information and assessment of landslide hazards and risks and field testing of landslides. Raturi was chairing the second executive committee meeting of ULMMC (Uttarakhand Landslide Reduction and Management Centre) in the Secretariat today. In the meeting, Radha Raturi also issued instructions for continuous monitoring of the works being done for the controlling and prevention of the landslides in the state. She also directed them to ensure effective monitoring of landslides and early warning system. The Chief Secretary said that special attention should be paid to awareness and advance preparations to avoid the risk of landslides in the state.
Raturi also directed the officials to prepare an atlas of the Char Dham Yatra route as part of the Landslide Information Database and to prepare district-wise landslide inventory and map the sensitivity of landslides district-wise. She also summoned the report of LIDAR Survey being conducted to assess the dangers and risks of landslides in Almora, Gopeshwar, Mussoorie, Nainital and Uttarkashi. It was informed in the meeting that landslide field tests of 60 sites have been conducted by ULMMC in the past one year. Landslide mitigation and monitoring projects are being run in Joshimath, Haldpani (Gopeshwar), Dhara (Dharchula), Baliyanala (Nainital) and Galogi (Mussoorie). Preparations are underway to start projects of landslide mitigation and monitoring in Naina Peak of Nainital, Mansa Devi of Haridwar and Bahugunanagar of Karnaprayag. 226 DPRs have been evaluated under SDMF for this.
Principal Secretary RK Sudhanshu, Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman, Additional Secretary Dr Ahmed Iqbal, Vineet Kumar and several other officers were present in the meeting.
