Dehradun, 4 Jun: With the onset of the monsoon and the looming threat of dengue, Dehradun Municipal Corporation (Doon Nagar Nigam) has initiated a special campaign to safeguard public health and control the spread of the disease. A larvicidal tanker drive was formally flagged off from the corporation premises by Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal and Municipal Commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey here today.

In the first phase, around 15 larvicidal tankers were dispatched to different wards and localities. These tankers will regularly spray larvicide in sensitive areas, waterlogged sites, drains, vacant plots, construction zones, public places and other potential mosquito breeding grounds to destroy larvae at the initial stage and prevent transmission.

The corporation claims to be conducting this initiative as a comprehensive public health measure, combining larvicidal spraying with awareness activities, field inspections, source control and cleanliness drives. The aim is to implement preventive measures effectively at the grassroots level to curb the spread of dengue.

Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal said that prevention of seasonal diseases like dengue requires joint participation of administration and citizens, and the corporation remains committed to protecting the health of residents. Municipal Commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey directed the officials to ensure that the campaign is carried out systematically and within set timelines across all wards, with priority given to sensitive areas and regular monitoring.

Among those present on the occasion were various municipal corporators, Chief Municipal Health Officer Dr Anand Shukla, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Tanveer Singh Marwah, Assistant Municipal Commissioner Rajbir Singh Chauhan, chief sanitation inspectors, health section staff and other corporation officers and employees.

In addition, the Nagar Nigam has also appealed to the citizens to avoid unnecessary waterlogging around their homes, keep tanks and containers covered, change water in coolers and flowerpots regularly, and extend active cooperation in the dengue prevention campaign. The administration has assured that extensive dengue control and sanitation activities will continue in the coming days.
