Dehradun, 25 Mar: Former Chief Minister of the state Harish Rawat today called an all-party meeting in a private hotel here, in which leaders of all opposition parties were present, and during which Harish Rawat accused the central government of killing democracy. Harish Rawat sarcastically claimed that in the so called Amrit Kaal of India’s democracry, the freedom of speech was being curbed.
Rawat said that it appears that the voice of the opposition sounds like poison in the ears of the ruling party. If the opposition raises any question, then the government sends those raising their voice to either jail or terminates their parliament membership. He further claimed that the BJP wanted an opposition-less India in the golden age of independence.
Harish Rawat claimed that the haste shown by the government to end the membership of Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha indicates that the central government is scared of the presence of Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha. Rawat said that it is the time when all opposition parties and leaders unite on these issues otherwise they too will become the targets of the government one day as Rahul Gandhi had become today.
Meanwhile, the State Congress Committee’s General Secretary Vijay Saraswat informed that the party will hold a mega demonstration tomorrow and block all district headquarters of the state tomorrow, from 10.00 am to 10.00 pm, in protest against the termination of the membership of former National President of Congress Rahul Gandhi. He added that the dharma will be held on the call of President Karan Mahra. A one-day dharna will be held in front of the statue of the BJP government for the enlightenment of the BJP government. Saraswat claimed that the BJP wants to suppress the voice of the opposition in the country in an undemocratic way and as a result in future this step will prove fatal for a healthy democracy.
Saraswat said that the Congress respects the court, but the central government is working with a sense of vendetta. Congress MPs are not being allowed to speak in the House, so that the government does not get exposed in the House and the country’s media is working on the instructions of the central government.
