Dehradun, 24 Apr: CWC member and Congress candidate for Garhwal (Pauri) Lok Sabha seat, Ganesh Godiyal addressed a press conference at Congress Bhawan, here, today. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech first delivered in Rajasthan and then in Aligarh regarding the Mangalsutras of married women, Godiyal claimed that a leader of the level of Prime Minister ought not to stoop to this level of making baseless allegations against Congress.
It may be recalled that, after Rajasthan, while addressing a public meeting in Aligarh, PM Modi fiercely targeted the INDI Alliance. PM Modi had claimed that Congress is eyeing the property of women through its promise to redistribute the nation’s wealth. This included the mangalsutras of women.
Strongly condemning Modi for his speech, Godiyal said that the PM should not talk lightly about Mangalsutra. He claimed that the first phase of elections on 102 seats has ended and, during this, the ruling party has lost ground. Godiyal claimed that PM mentioned Mangalsutra in his statements, but hardly talked about the achievements of his 10 year tenure. He called it an attempt to garner emotional benefit by bringing in the issue of Mangalsutra.
Godiyal claimed that, in these 10 years, the BJP government has made the prices of gold go beyond the reach of the common person. Gold remained within the reach of people during the 65 years of Congress rule. During the Congress government, the price of gold used to be Rs 30 thousand per tola. As soon as BJP came to power, the price of gold increased to Rs 75 thousand per tola. In such a situation, those who are worried about the marriage of their children are also worried about the expensive gold. Taking a dig at PM Modi’s comments, Godiyal said that it is not the Congress and its alliance but the Prime Minister who is eying the country’s wealth. He said that, in these 10 years, public enterprises have been handed over to private hands. Godiyal said that Prime Minister Modi has his eye on India’s resources, which he wants to use to serve the interests of his friends from the Corporate world.
