Dehradun/New Delhi, 19 Mar: Former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and Member of Parliament from Haridwar Trivendra Singh Rawat paid a courtesy call on Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi and raised important concerns regarding the proposed flyover/underpass in the Chhidderwala and Resham Majri areas on the Dehradun–Haridwar National Highway.

During the meeting, Rawat presented in detail the concerns and expectations of local residents, traders, and public representatives. He informed the minister that the current proposed design—due to its excessive length and fully covered structure—may adversely affect the visibility of the highway-facing market located at Chhidderwala Chowk on NH-72 (Haridwar–Dehradun).

He highlighted that this market includes a petrol pump, medical stores, and around 1,200 shops, and any obstruction in visibility could negatively impact the local economy.

Rawat further conveyed that, based on suggestions received from local representatives—particularly Gram Pradhan Gokul Ramola—it would be more appropriate to construct the proposed flyover in a pillar-based (open) design and to keep its length as short as possible. This would help maintain a balance between infrastructure development and local livelihoods.

Union Minister Gadkari gave a positive assurance in this regard. It was stated that a sensitive and balanced decision would be taken, keeping in mind public interest, the local economy, and public sentiments.
