Mussoorie, 6 Dec: Rich tributes were paid here to Dr BR Ambedkar on his 65th death anniversary, which is observed as ‘Mahaparinirvan Diwas’. A programme was organised by the Bhartiya Dalit Sahitya Academy at BR Ambedkar Chowk near Library Bazaar. Representatives of various political and social organisations paid floral tribute before the Dalit icon’s statue.
Mussoorie BJP President Mohan Petwal and Mussoorie Mahila Congress President Jasbeer Kaur praised Dr Ambedkar’s contributions towards social justice. They added that his thoughts on economic issues were equally enlightening. They further said India had become a powerful country only due to the Constitution drafted by Dr Ambedkar. Socalist Anil Singh said Baba Saheb asked people to get education and fight for their rights.
Speakers on the occasion said that Dr Ambedkar played the role of God to people who belonged to the Scheduled Castes and Tribes. They shed light on the life and works of Baba Saheb. They recalled that Ambedkar had faced a lot of humiliation, yet his patriotism was reflected in his work. OP Uniyal former Palika Chairman, said that Ambedkar played a pivotal role both pre-and post-Independence India, paving the way for a uniform society where no discrimination on the basis of religion, caste, creed or status existed. He claimed the Union Government under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi was working to fulfill Dr Ambedkar’s vision.
Sunil Sonker, President, BDSA, focused on the achievements of Dr Ambedkar and the need of his ideology in the present time.
