Dehradun, 13 Mar: With just about half a month remaining for the financial year 2025–26 to end, the Dehradun Municipal Corporation (Doon Nagar Nigam) has intensified its efforts to recover property tax dues. The Nagar Nigam has stepped up its campaign to ensure maximum collection before the close of the financial year and is continuously contacting defaulters while issuing notices for payment. Camps are also being organised in different wards to facilitate tax collection.
In this regard, Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal has directed officials to launch a special drive for property tax recovery. So far in the current financial year, the Corporation has collected around Rs 57 crores as revenue from property tax, and efforts are underway to increase this amount further through an extensive door-to-door campaign.

Significantly, it may be noted that in several wards, many residential properties as well as certain government institutions have also not yet deposited their property tax with the Municipal Corporation. In view of this, a verification campaign is being conducted across all the municipal wards to identify properties liable to pay property tax. The exercise is aimed at verifying properties and bringing those that have not yet been brought under the property tax ambit within the tax net through a comprehensive verification process.
The Municipal Commissioner has also directed the Nigam officials to ensure one hundred per cent recovery of property tax in the wards allotted to them. For this purpose, the tax superintendents and the tax inspectors have been instructed to carry out special drives in their respective wards. Taxpayers whose outstanding property tax amount is less than Rs 10,000 can make payments through the Municipal Corporation’s WhatsApp portal. The taxpayers seeking any information regarding their property tax dues can contact the helpline numbers 7409777799, 9456548005, 8191800195, 9761260443 and 7895723664 over telephone.
The Commissioner has also asserted that the taxpayers who fail to clear their dues despite reminders and notices will now be issued a final warning notice. If the property tax is not deposited within 15 days of the warning, action may be initiated against the defaulters concerned by issuing a recovery certificate (RC) for the purpose of recovery. In addition, extra counters will be set up at zonal offices to accelerate the collection process. Establishments that have not paid property tax for several years will also be liable to pay interest at the rate of 12 per cent along with penalties.
Bansal said that compared to the previous year, the Municipal Corporation had collected around Rs 50 crores in property tax revenue by February. So far, this year, the collection has reached nearly Rs 57 crores. She added that clear instructions have been issued to achieve the annual property tax collection target of Rs 75 crores, and that the officials will work with full capacity over the next few days to meet the target.
