National Webinar held on ‘Romanticism & Chhayavad’

Chamoli, 9 Sep: The Department of English, Government PG College, Nagnath Pokhari, conducted a one-day national webinar, titled ‘An Insight into Romanticism and Chhayavad’, organised by Dr Versha Singh, Head, Department of English, under the supervision of Principal Prof SK Sharma and with the assistance of other faculty members.
The webinar was attended by a number of professors, research scholars and students from states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh.
The Keynote Speaker, Dr Vikas Sharma (D.Lit), Associate Professor, Department of English, CCS University, Meerut, enlightened participants that Hindi Chhayavadi poets were swayed by British Romanticism and, both movements, British Romanticism and Hindi Chhayavad had similarities. He described WB Yeats as the last romantic in English Literature.
Dr Elba Mandrella, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Government Degree College, Kapkot (Bageshwar), stated that Sanskrit literature, Rasa theory, Ramcharitmanas and Kalidas’ Abhigyansakuntalam had the impact of romanticism. In the lecture series, Dr Sunil Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Hindi, Government PG College, Joshimath (Chamoli), threw light on different characteristics of the Chhayavad Era, like subjectivity, mysticism, liberalism, love of beauty and nature, and the philosophical outlook in Hindi literature.
Dr Abhai Srivastava, Head, Department of Botany, convened the programme. The webinar was attended by Dr Hansa Gautam, Associate Professor, AN College, Patna, Dr Seema Sarkar, Navyug Kanya Degree College, Lucknow, Dr MS Chauhan, Head, Department of Geography, Dr NK Chamola, Head, Department of Hindi, Dr Renu Sanwal and Dr Kanchan Sahgal.
