Kotdwar, 4 Sep: Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker and Kotdwar MLA, Ritu Khanduri Bhushan conducted a surprise inspection at the Regional Transport Office (ARTO), Tadiyal Chowk, today.

During the inspection, she checked the attendance register of officers and staff present in the office and reviewed the functioning in detail. She also assessed the progress of services related to vehicle registration, issue of driving licences, vehicle fitness checks, and other road transport services.

Issuing strict instructions to the officials, the Speaker said, “Every day, a large number of people visit the transport office. It is our primary responsibility to ensure that citizens do not face any inconvenience. Officers and employees must arrive at the office on time, bring speed and transparency to work, and resolve every public issue promptly.”

She further directed that all tasks must be completed within the stipulated timeline; citizens should not be forced to make unnecessary rounds of the office; online platforms and SMS/message systems should be used to provide timely information. Also, transparency, accountability, and public convenience must remain the highest priority in the office.

Ritu Khanduri Bhushan also warned that, if negligence or laxity is found in the future, strict action will be taken against the officers and employees.

Local citizens present during the inspection welcomed the Speaker’s initiative. They said, “Often, people have to wait for long even for small tasks at the transport office. Today, the Speaker visited and issued direct instructions to the officials. This will surely provide relief to the public and speed up the work.”

Concluding her visit, Ritu Khanduri Bhushan said, “The first duty of the government and administration is the service and convenience of the people. Citizens must not suffer due to negligence of officers. Every official should fulfil their responsibility with utmost sincerity—this is my expectation.”
