NSS Foundation Day celebrated at SGRR University

Dehradun, 24 Sep: The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Shri Guru Ram Rai University celebrated NSS Foundation Day with great enthusiasm on the university campus. NSS, a flagship programme of the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, is based on the motto “Not Me, But You”, which aims to instill in youth a spirit of service, cooperation, and social responsibility. Through this programme, students work closely with rural communities and different sections of society, playing an active role in nation-building.

Students of the university participated with zeal and marked the occasion with vibrant cultural performances.

The programme, held on Wednesday at the university auditorium in the Patel Nagar campus, was inaugurated by Chief Guest Sunaina Rawat, State Coordinator of NSS, Uttarakhand; Prof (Dr) Prathapan K Pillai, Advisor at SGRR University; Dr Lokesh Gambhir, Registrar, SGRR University; Dr Naveen Gaurav, NSS Coordinator; and Dr Kamla Dhyani, NSS Programme Officer, with the traditional lighting of the lamp.

On this occasion, Chief Guest Sunaina Rawat announced the sanctioning of three independent (self-financed) NSS units for Shri Guru Ram Rai University. She remarked that NSS provides one of the most effective platforms for youth to engage in social service and nation-building. The scheme not only nurtures responsible and sensitive citizens but also helps students develop leadership qualities and a positive outlook in life. She urged the university’s NSS volunteers to ensure active participation in areas such as rural development, environmental conservation, sanitation, and health.

Speaking at the event, Prof (Dr) Prathapan K Pillai, Advisor to SGRR University, said that NSS inspires values of service and sacrifice in society. He encouraged the volunteers to make social service an integral part of their lives and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress. He also described NSS as a strong platform for the holistic development of students’ personalities.

Dr Lokesh Gambhir, Registrar, SGRR University, congratulated the students and extended best wishes. He said that the spirit of service forms the foundation of true education and emphasised that youth achieve true success when they step forward to support the underprivileged sections of society. Expressing hope for the future, he encouraged NSS volunteers to continue dedicating their energy and enthusiasm to the welfare of society.

The university students added to the celebration with their captivating cultural performances. The programme was attended by deans of various faculties, faculty members, and students in large numbers.
