Dehradun, 6 May: Pine Hall School, Dehradun, in association with SPIC MACAY – the Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth – hosted a Hindustani classical vocal recital on Wednesday morning, bringing one of India’s most celebrated young classical vocalists to its campus.

Pandit Bhuvanesh Komkali, grandson of the legendary Pandit Kumar Gandharva and son of Mukul Shivputra, enthralled hundreds of students in the school auditorium. Accompanied by Chetan Nigam on harmonium, Shambhunath Bhattacharjee on tabla, and Varsha Bansiwal in vocal support, the performance drew the audience deep into the contemplative world of classical ragas.

The auditorium, filled to capacity with students from across classes, bore witness to a rare stillness – the kind that only great music can command. The young audience sat rapt throughout the recital, many experiencing live Hindustani classical music of this calibre for the first time.

Pandit Komkali, a recipient of the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi’s Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar (2012), the Mallikarjun Mansur Yuva Puraskaar by the Government of Karnataka (2010), and the Shanmukhanand Shiromani Award (2009), carries forward one of India’s most distinguished musical lineages. He was received at the school by the Principal and faculty, and welcomed by student volunteers who managed hospitality and coordination throughout the event.

The concert was followed by a question-and-answer session, during which students interacted directly with the artist, bridging the gap between classical masters and the younger generation.

Pine Hall School has long championed holistic education, and this event reflected its commitment to exposing students to the finest expressions of India’s cultural heritage.
