Dehradun, 31 Jan: Police driver Naresh Joshi, posted in Udham Singh Nagar, who showed his indomitable courage in saving 25 lives without caring for his own life, will be honoured with the “Jeevan Raksha Medal” 2023 by the President of India.
This was announced today by Director General of Police Abhinav Kumar who congratulated Naresh Joshi for the honour. Kumar also noted that Joshi had brought glory to the Uttarakhand Police Department across the country, for his indomitable courage and risking his own life to save 25 others.
It may be recalled that, on the morning of 30 August, 2022, at 5 a.m., a police team reached the spot on receiving information about leakage of ammonia from a cylinder in the scrap warehouse at Transit Camp, Azad Nagar, Udham Singh Nagar district. Several people had fallen unconscious due to the gas leak. Ammonia was leaking from a gas cylinder in the scrap warehouse. Others also were feeling burning sensation in their eyes and difficulty in breathing.
Reserve driver Naresh Joshi displayed indomitable courage by placing the poisonous gas cylinder in an e-rickshaw and drover it away from the densely populated area, without caring for his own life.
