Preparations underway to successfully host National Games: Dhami


CM inaugurates State Khel Mahakumbh at Maharana Pratap Sports College

Dehradun, 19 Dec: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the state level Khel Mahakumbh at Maharana Pratap Sports College in Raipur here today. The Chief Minister, on this occasion, interacted with the players who had come from all the districts of the state to participate in the Mahakumbh and encouraged them.

Dhami also announced that sports kits would be provided to the players who secure first, second and third positions at the Mahakumbh. He also rewarded the players who got the first three positions in the 800 metres race in the boys’ category on the occasion.

Addressing the players, the CM observed that sports are important for mental, physical and social development. Sports provide an opportunity to work through teamwork. The Khel Mahakumbh, organised at the state level, will provide an excellent platform to the young players of Uttarakhand to showcase their talent. After playing at the Panchayat level, Block level and District level, players get an opportunity to showcase their sporting talent in this Khel Mahakumbh at the state level. The objective of the Khel Mahakumbh is to prepare the players for major sports competitions at national and international levels. Dhami added that the upcoming 38th National Games to be held in Uttarakhand would prove to be a milestone in the development of sports talents of Uttarakhand. Preparation of various infrastructure facilities for organising the 38th National Games has begun, under which the National Sports Secretariat has been formed, so that the National Games can be conducted smoothly.

The Chief Minister claimed that sports have been promoted rapidly in the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. India won a record 107 medals in the recently concluded Asian Games in China. With renewed vigour, India is now ready to host the “Youth Olympics” in 2030 and the “Olympic” Games in 2036. Under the leadership of the Prime Minister, the sports budget has also tripled compared to before. Even in Uttarakhand, innovative experiments are being conducted for young players from villages to cities. Badminton court, basketball court and open gym are being built using the vacant space under the Haridwar flyovers. The government is also trying to reintroduce the sports quota in jobs for young players. To encourage talent, the state government is also going to provide direct government jobs to players who win medals at national and international levels. In the new sports policy, provision has been made for appropriate economic incentives to encourage the young players of the state.

On this occasion, the CM instructed the officials of the Sports Department that all preparations for the upcoming National Games should be done expeditiously. Arrangements should be made for the players, from their diet to their accommodation and every other facility. In order for the state to perform well in the National Games to be held in Uttarakhand, good players should be identified from now on and arrangements made for their better training.

Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Rekha Arya said that, under the leadership of Chief Minister Dhami, work is being done at a rapid pace to promote sports in the state. A new sports policy has been implemented in the state in which efforts have been made to provide every possible facility to the players.

On this occasion, MLA Umesh Sharma ‘Kau’, Special Principal Secretary, Sports, Amit Sinha, Sports Director Jitendra Sonkar and other officials of the Sports Department were present.
