Dehradun, 3 Sep: Senior BJP leader from Uttarakhand, former state party spokesperson and also former minister ranked functionary, Virendra Bisht passed away in Dehradun this morning after a prolonged illness. His mortal remains were later cremated at Chanderbani crematorium.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, BJP State President Mahendra Bhatt and senior BJP leaders from the Centre and the state have condoled the passing away.
Known as one of the most articulate and sharp voices of the party in the state, Bisht was widely respected for his forthright defence of the organisation’s standpoints. His demise has cast a shadow of grief across the BJP, with leaders expressing condolences and extending support to his bereaved family.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, in a post on X, described Bisht’s death as an irreparable loss to the BJP organisation. He prayed for peace to the departed soul and strength to the grieving family to bear the immense sorrow. State BJP president Mahendra Bhatt said Bisht was always dedicated and loyal to the organisation, and his passing is a severe blow to the party family. Former Union minister and former chief minister of Uttarakhand, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, also termed the loss as irreparable not only for the BJP but for society at large.
Central BJP leader Vinod Tawde also expressed deep anguish at the news, calling Bisht’s commitment and loyalty to the organisation unforgettable. He prayed for the departed soul to find place at the divine feet and for the family to be given strength in this difficult time. Beyond the BJP, political circles across Uttarakhand also mourned Bisht’s death, recalling him as a leader of gentle disposition who kept himself away from controversies and was remembered for his calm and dignified conduct. Senior Congress leader Surendra Kumar has also condoled passing away of Bisht and described him as childhood friend.
