Dehradun, 13 Jul: Chief Secretary (CS) Anand Bardhan today reviewed the state’s cybercrime situation in a meeting he held with the Home Secretary and senior police officials at the Secretariat here. During the meeting, he directed that the State Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (S4C) be established and notified at the earliest. He emphasised that the centre would facilitate cooperation between the Centre, the state and the districts and also ensure quicker relief to victims.

The CS stressed upon the need to strengthen all the cyber police stations across the state and also issued instructions to reinforce the 1930 helpline. He said manpower at the 1930 call centre be increased to reduce response time. He also emphasised on the importance of fortifying the e‑Zero FIR system, directing that every e‑Zero FIR be converted into a full FIR and integrated swiftly with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS).

The CS observed that most victims of cyber fraud fail to lodge timely complaints or avail the money restoration module due to lack of awareness. He asked the police department to proactively assist the victims and to spread awareness among the public through continuous communication via media and social media. He said the people must be informed about how to protect themselves from cyber fraud and what immediate steps to take if they fall victim.

Bardhan also ordered that the complaints received on the Grievance Redressal Module be resolved within the stipulated timeframe. He also called for capacity building of the officers and the staff in the police department in view of rising cybercrime and directed that the number of cyber commandos be increased.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Shailesh Bagoli, ADG V Murugesan, IG Nilesh Anand Bharne, SSP STF Ajai Singh and Additional Home Secretary Tripti Bhatt.
