STF nabs accused in Rs 82 lakh Cyber Scam under ‘Operation Prahar’

Dehradun, 11 Jun: The Special Task Force (STF) has arrested an accused named Vaibhav Manoj Gadge in connection with a Rs 82 lakh online fraud case. The arrest was made as part of the ongoing campaign “Operation Prahar”. The accused had cheated a resident of Udham Singh Nagar by luring him with promises of high returns through fake online trading schemes.

According to the STF, he used social media and WhatsApp groups to trap people. They added victims to fake trading groups and shared false messages and screenshots showing big profits. These tricks made people believe they would earn fast money. A fake app was also used to show fake profits to gain the victims’ trust.

During the investigation, the cyber police tracked bank accounts and phone numbers used in the scam. One main accused, Vaibhav Manoj Gadge from Nagpur, Maharashtra, was identified and arrested. He has been brought to the Cyber Crime Police Station in Rudrapur for further action.

Police also found that, in just 4-5 months, crores of rupees had been moved through the accused’s bank accounts. So far, 8 cyber fraud complaints against him have been registered in different states like Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

STF said that it is working closely with banks and service providers to collect more information. The investigation is still underway.
