Mussoorie, 30 Aug: State Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj conducted a surprise on-site inspection, today, of the ongoing construction work to develop George Everest House as a heritage tourism destination by Uttarakhand Tourism.
Minister Satpal Maharaj along, with his wife, former Tourism Minister Amrita Rawat, reached George Everest House here and inspected renovation works worth Rs 23 crore at the site. Maharaj said that several development works were underway, including the renovation of George Everest House. He said that work worth Rs 10 crore had already been done, while the rest would begin after getting permission of the Forest Department. Satpal Maharaj said the ongoing work at the Estate included renovation of George Everest House and Guising Hut, AP Theatre, George Everest Peak Trek Route, Selfie Point, Approach Road, Mobile Toilet, etc. Five food vans will also be given to local shopkeepers to serve tourists at the site.
Maharaj instructed officials to ensure that all the work would be completed by December 2020. It may be noted that the work was scheduled to have been completed by September 2020, but there was a delay due to the corona epidemic.
