U’khand Statehood Movement is part of World Heritage: Ravindra Jugran

Dehradun, 8 Nov: On the eve of 25th Anniversary of the formation of the state of Uttarakhand, a series of programmes were organized today at the Swami Vivekananda Auditorium of Uttaranchal University. Senior Uttarakhand State Movement activist Ravindra Jugran was the Chief Guest and keynote speaker on this occasion, while the President of the University, Jitendra Joshi, Vice President Ankita Joshi, and Vice Chancellor Prof Dharm Buddhi and Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Rajesh Bahuguna were present as special guests.

The programme was inaugurated by paying tribute to the immortal martyrs of the Uttarakhand movement. Photos of the martyrs were put up on the Shaurya Wall in the university and with the drill of NCC cadets, first the Chief Guest, Ravindra Jugran and Jitendra Joshi, and then everyone offered flowers. On this occasion, the entire atmosphere resonated with the slogans of ‘Shaheed Amar Rahe’ of Uttarakhand State Movement.

In a jam-packed auditorium, students presented a play based on the Uttarakhand State Movement. The students’ touching presentation of the Khatima and Mussoorie incidents and a procession with the famous slogans of the movement moved everyone.

In his address, the Pro Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Rajesh Bahuguna, said that the Uttarakhand State Movement is an incomparable example of struggle, patience, sacrifice and dedication. The movement not turning violent even after intolerable atrocities is its specialty.

Speaking on the outline of the Uttarakhand movement, Ravindra Jugran said that the Uttarakhand Movement is not only a heritage of India but of the world. The principles that emerged from this movement reminded the country and the world of true Gandhism. It was originated by students and youth and taken over by women and every section of the state, including ex-servicemen, joined this movement. He said that the Uttarakhand State Movement should be a part of the primary education of the state so that every child can imbibe its struggles and principles.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dharm Buddhi said that the educational institutions of the state can play an important role in future progress. He described the work being done by Uttaranchal University for the all-round development of the state. He said that the Uttarakhand movement taught the lesson of non-violence to the whole country.

University President Jitendra Joshi congratulated the teachers, students and employees on the 25th anniversary of the foundation day. He said that the creation of Uttarakhand state is not only the result of constitutional provisions and legislative process, but it is the success of the struggle, sacrifice and martyrdom of those countless Uttarakhandis who set new standards of mass movements and created a unique precedent.

Present on this occasion were Executive Director of the University Dr Abhishek Joshi, Prof Poonam Rawat, Dr Ajay Singh, Dr Sonal Sharma, Dr Shravan Kumar, Dr Vikas Jakhmola, Dr Manish Badoni, Dr Mahipal Singh, Dr Sumit Chaudhary, Dr Amit Bhatt, KB Pokhriyal and a large number of teachers and students.
