Dehradun, 30 Aug: The Uttarakhandi film, ‘Meethi–Maa Ku Ashirwad’, opened to packed houses across multiple multiplexes in Dehradun, Kotdwar, Rishikesh, Roorkee and Vikasnagar on its first day of release, marking a significant milestone in regional cinema.

Audiences in Dehradun’s Centrio Mall, Hathibarkhla, were full of praise for the film after the first show. “Meethi movie is refreshingly new in terms of storyline, music, and acting. The film brilliantly captures and treats the ethos and culture of Uttarakhand in an extremely sensitive manner,” said Vasundhra Negi, a famous theatre artist known for her stage play ‘Tinchari Mai’.

Producer Vaibhav Goyal expressed his excitement about the film’s reception. “The audience response to the first show of Meethi is incredibly encouraging. We’re hopeful that this enthusiasm will draw even larger crowds to other centres as the word spreads about the film,” he remarked.

Earlier, Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Bansal, Minister of State Shyamveer Saini, Joint Information Director Nitin Upadhyay, film director Pradeep Bhandari and Ashok Negi besides other dignitaries were welcomed by the film’s producer Vaibhav Goyal and Director Kanta Prasad, who arrived to watch the first show of the film at PVR Centrio Mall, here.

The two-and-a-half-hour feature, starring Neha Khugsal as Meethi, a village girl who inherits her mother’s culinary skills, beautifully narrates a story deeply rooted in the food traditions of Uttarakhand. The film not only portrays the rich culinary heritage but also explores the profound connection between food, culture, and identity, resonating strongly with the audience.

Set against the stunning landscapes of Uttarakhand, Meethi–Maa Ku Ashirwad follows the protagonist as she leaves her village and migrates to the city, where she faces numerous challenges. Despite encountering ridicule for her traditional Pahari dishes, Meethi’s culinary skills captivate everyone, from roadside customers to MasterChef-style competition judges. The film takes the viewers on an emotional journey as Meethi strives to preserve her heritage, overcome past wounds, and build a future that honours her roots.

With such a strong opening, Meethi–Maa Ku Ashirwad is poised to leave a lasting impact on audiences across Uttarakhand.
