Virtual CME held on ‘Medical Consent’

Dehradun, 28 Feb: Department of Anesthesiology, Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, Swami Rama Himalayan University, in collaboration with Dehradun Society of Anesthesiologists organised a virtual CME on consent – a mandate in the medical profession.
Consent before any procedure or intervention is now mandatory and it is a right of the patient. Dr Parul Jindal, the organising Chairperson, informed the house about the importance of taking consent from the patient for any procedure.
A panel discussion was conducted by Dr Divya Gupta with eminent personalities from various medical fields Dr Gurjeet Khurana, Dr Veena Asthana, Dr Rajesh Maheshwari, Dr Hemant Nautiyal and Dr Ruchira Nautiyal. They discussed consent in different scenarios which doctors come across in their practice. Dr Vijay Tyagi, a medico-legal expert, and advocate Updip Singh a lawyer who has handled more than 500 cases of medical negligence from Amritsar, gave their expert opinions on the queries raised by the audiences. There were 350 participants from across India who attended the webinar and it was appreciated by all.
