Haridwar, 19 May: A provocative video containing objectionable remarks made by a youth threatening to indulge in cow slaughter during Bakrid has gone viral on social media from the holy city of Haridwar. As the video went viral, the Police immediately took cognisance of the provocative statement and have arrested Zeeshan in order to prevent any possible incitement or disturbance of peace.
The video shows a youth making inflammatory comments, which quickly drew public attention. Acting without delay, the police detained the accused, identified as Zeeshan, son of Abdul Karim, resident of Ghosiyan Mohalla in Jwalapur.
During the interrogation, the youth expressed regret over his statement and tendered an apology. The Police authorities have made it clear that strict action will be taken against anyone posting incendiary or offensive content on social media. SSP Haridwar, Navneet Bhullar today emphasised that any attempts to disturb communal harmony will be dealt with firmly and that those trying to vitiate the atmosphere in the religious city will face the full force of law.
It may be recalled that people and sages in Haridwar had expressed deep anguish over the viral video. However, the proactive action by the police must have given a sense of relief for the Haridwar residents and the sages.
