Dehradun, 1 Oct: The capital city of Uttarakhand is ready for its grand Dussehra celebration at the Parade Ground. Every year on this occasion, thousands of people gather to watch the burning of the huge effigies of Ravana, Meghnath, Kumbhkaran, and Lanka. People wait eagerly for this event every year.
The Bannu Biradari Dussehra Committee President, Santokh Nagpal, reported that, this year, a 121-feet tall effigy of Ravana will be burnt. Along with it, a 70-feet effigy of Meghnath and a 75-feet effigy of Kumbhkaran will also be set on fire. Last year, the Ravana effigy was 131 feet tall.
The grand Shobha Yatra will start at 2 p.m. from Ansari Road and reach Gopinath Temple through Kalika Mata Temple Road. After prayers, the procession will move to the Parade Ground.
Around 80,000 to 1,00,000 people are expected to attend this celebration. The Governor and the Chief Minister will also be present.
According to the schedule, Lanka Dahan will take place at 5:15 p.m., followed by the burning of Meghnath and Kumbhkaran between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. The Ravana effigy will be set on fire at 6:05 p.m. To make the event more attractive, selfie points have also been set up at the Parade Ground.
