Dehradun, 28 Nov: Urban Development Minister Prem Chand Aggarwal conducted an inspection of the under-construction Aarhat Bazaar in Brahmanwala, here, today. Aggarwal inspected the construction work in the new Aarhat Bazaar, which is being built to decongest Gandhi Road where the present Aarhat Bazaar is located.
During the inspection, the Urban Development Minister issued strict instructions to maintain quality in the construction of the parking facility, the fire station, and other projects undertaken by the MDDA.
Aggarwal also claimed that the work on the under-construction project has accelerated in recent months. Out of approximately 356 affected traders under the road widening project in the old Aarhat Bazaar of Dehradun, 285 traders are being allotted plots in the new Aarhat Bazaar in Brahmanwala. These traders have been given plots based on the value of their current shops. The remaining shopkeepers have opted for monetary compensation instead of being allotted shops in the new Aarhat Bazaar.
Aggarwal shared that Aarhat Bazaar is expected to be shifted to its new location by May 2025. He stated that Aarhat Bazaar is being relocated to approximately 10 hectares of land under a special scheme costing around Rs 126 crores. A five-story parking facility is under construction at the new Aarhat Bazaar and will accommodate 570 vehicles. After the inspection, Aggarwal informed the media that road construction work is in progress on both sides of Aarhat Bazaar and an overhead tank is also under construction. The minister mentioned that three public toilets, including a pink toilet for women, will be built in the new Aarhat Bazaar. Additionally, an STP, a fire station, a cold storage, a polyclinic, a first-aid room, and a park are also to be constructed under the plan.
The Urban Development Minister added that provisions have also been made for the construction of a temple, a weigh station, an LT panel room, and garbage collection facilities for solid waste disposal in the new Aarhat Bazaar. He emphasised that the work must be completed by May 2025 and instructed the department to adhere to the timeline and maintain quality.
