Dehradun, 29 Apr: The first Quarter Final in the Col Shashi Memorial Cricket Tournament for Under-14, affiliated to the ‘Schools’ Cricket Federation of India’, was played between Oak Grove School (OGS) and Indian Public School (IPS) at Cambrian Hall, here, today.
Harshit and Ritesh opened the innings for OGS. The first six overs could only produce 20 runs for the loss of one wicket, but Ritesh and Shitansh laid a solid foundation and contributed 46 runs for the second wicket. All the batsmen contributed but the real hitting came from Ashish, who made 50 not out, hitting 2 fours and 4 sixes in 29 balls. Ritesh made 48 in 38 balls, hitting 4 fours and a six. Shitansh made 26, Shaurya, 13, and Aryan, 9. IPS gave away 9 runs as extras. Nityanand, Sandeep and Vivek got one wicket, each. OGS finally made 157 for 9 in its allotted 20 overs.
Chasing a moderate score of 157, IPS early batsmen didn’t apply themselves, as they played blindly and four wickets were lost when the score was just 24. Sandeep was the only batsman who really played a hard game and made 58 in 28 balls, hitting 11 fours and a six. Rahul, Veer, Nityanand and Ayush made 8 runs each. OGS gave away 20 runs as extras. Dipesh and Ritesh took 3 wickets, each, Satyam took 2 and Aryan, one wicket. IPS finally were all out for 121. OGS won the first Q-final and entered the Semi-final to be played on 1 May.
The 2nd Q-final was played between Brain Discovery Public School (BDPS) and St Kabeer Acdemy (SKA). BDPS won the toss and opted to bat first. Poorvansh and Vinay opened the innings for BDPS. Both started hitting from the very first ball. They were harsh on every bowler and contributed 188 without being separated in the allotted 20 overs. Poorvansh made 93 in 59 balls, hitting 14 fours and a six, while Vinay made 71 in 61 balls, hitting 11 fours.
SKA opened the innings with Priyanshul and Sagar. Priyanshul was out for a duck. Harmandeep and Kalam did play decent cricket and made 18 and 21 runs, respectively. Rakshit made 11, Suvash, 16, and 19 runs were given away as extras by BDPS. Adnan took 3 wickets, Krish took 2 wickets, while Akshit, Poorvansh and Manish took one wicket, each. Finally SKA made 117 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. OGS won the match by 71 runs and based on this win they entered the Semi-finals.
