Dehradun, 25 Aug: BJP leader Ravindra Jugran met Uttarakhand Higher Education Minister Dhan Singh Rawat today and urged him to expedite the recruitment process for the vacant teaching and non-teaching posts at MKP PG College.
During the meeting, Minister Dhan Singh Rawat assured Jugran that the government has already initiated efforts in this direction and that the recruitment process would be started at the earliest. The minister also informed him that a permanent Principal has been appointed at the college, replacing the temporary arrangement that had continued for several years.
The minister further stated that approval has been granted for the required posts and that the process of preparing the reservation roster is underway. The matter is also being examined at the government level to ensure that there are no legal hurdles in the recruitment process. At present, the Chief Development Officer (CDO), Dehradun, is serving as the Administrator of the college.
Jugran highlighted the historical importance of MKP PG College, stating that the institution was once among the renowned women’s colleges of North India, with nearly 5,000 female students enrolled. However, over the past several years, student strength has declined significantly and currently stands at around 1,500 students.
He informed the Higher Education Minister that, against 63 sanctioned posts, only 13 teaching posts are currently filled, while the remaining posts are vacant. According to Jugran, nearly 85% of the sanctioned teaching and non-teaching positions are currently vacant, severely affecting the functioning and academic environment of the institution.
Jugran cautioned that if the vacant posts are not filled within the next year, the college could face a serious crisis, as a large number of the currently serving teachers and employees are also approaching retirement.
He urged the government to complete the recruitment process on a priority basis and ensure that MKP PG College regains its academic strength and reputation as a premier women’s educational institution.
