Khatima, 5 Mar: Rinku Rana, a resident of Nanakmatta who was an emerging folk singer and gaining recognition as the first prominent folk singer from the Tharu tribal community, has died in a road accident. She was returning on a scooter with her niece after celebrating Holi at her parental home in Bichpuri, Nanakmatta, last evening. During the journey, she was seriously injured after coming under a speeding tractor-trolley. She later succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has condoled the passing away of Rana and has posted his condolence on his X Account.
Rinku Rana, an emerging Tharu folk singer from Naugaja in Nanakmatta and associated with the Bunty Rana cultural troupe of Khatima, died in the road accident that occurred in the Nanakmatta area. She had gone to celebrate Holi at her parental home in Bichpuri, Nanakmatta. While returning on a scooter with her niece, a speeding tractor-trolley loaded with bricks rammed into their scooter. In the accident, Rinku Rana and her niece sustained serious injuries.
On reaching the hospital, doctors declared Rinku Rana dead after examination. Her niece is currently undergoing treatment. The body of Rinku Rana has been brought to the Khatima Sub-District Hospital for post-mortem examination, where the required formalities are being carried out.
Rinku Rana’s in-laws’ residence was in Puran Garh Naugla in Nanakmatta. She was 36 years old. She is survived by her nine-year-old son Nishant Singh and her husband Mahesh Singh. Rinku Rana used to perform at state-level programmes along with the cultural troupe of Tharu folk artist Bunty Rana and also served as a leading member of the group. Her death has caused deep grief among her family members and folk artists of the Tharu tribal community.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, and Leader of the Opposition and Khatima MLA Bhuvan Kapri, have expressed grief over the sudden demise of the emerging Tharu folk singer from the border region. They described her untimely death as a major loss.
