Dehradun, 19 Nov: A meeting of the Bhagirathi Eco Sensitive Zone Monitoring Committee was held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, here, today.
At the meeting, the Chief Secretary said that immediate protective and remedial works should be done within the periphery of the eco-sensitive zone.
He directed the Irrigation Department and related departments and agencies to carry out flood control and other protective works in the area adjacent to the river.
The Chief Secretary directed the District Magistrate, Uttarkashi, and the officials concerned to comprehensively study the various provisions related to the zonal master plan, environment and biodiversity regarding the permissions for non-agricultural and commercial activities.
“If there is a need for scientific studies by institutions like Wadia Institute, IIT Roorkee, then include that in the plan,” he advised.
Explaining the importance of solid waste management in the zone, he said that, in coordination with various departments and agencies in this regard, a plan should be prepared according to the ground situation and presented in the next meeting.
The Chief Secretary directed that the members of the committee and officers of the departments and agencies concerned can also carry out onsite inspection of the identified site. He also directed fixing a definite date for this.
Principal Secretary RK Sudhanshu, Independent Member, State Monitoring Committee, Malika Bhanot, District Magistrate, Uttarkashi, Prashant Arya, Director UTDB (Infrastructure) Deepak Khanduri, Executive Engineer, Irrigation, Sanjay Rai and other officials were present at the meeting.
