Dehradun, 4 Aug: Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) on Tuesday participated in the “Dialogue for Resolution” programme organised by the Mahavirayatan Foundation at the Lok Bhavan, here. Addressing the gathering, he said that, at a time when the world is facing numerous conflicts and challenges, dialogue remains the most effective and sustainable way to resolve problems. “Where dialogue ends, conflict begins,” he remarked.
Referring to the life and philosophy of Lord Mahavira, the Governor said that Mahavira demonstrated the path of self-discipline, non-violence, compassion, and social harmony by conquering the self. He noted that these principles are as relevant today as ever, inspiring peace, goodwill, and coexistence in society. He added that Lord Mahavira’s message of “Live and Let Live” continues to serve as a guiding principle for humanity.
The Governor said that India’s greatest strength lies in its unity amidst diversity, forming the foundation of the vision of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” (One India, Great India). He emphasised that India’s spirit resides in its rich culture and shared values, and that a strong society and a strong nation can only be built through dialogue and harmony.
Highlighting ongoing global conflicts, the Governor said that, at such a time, the message of dialogue, peace, and peaceful coexistence should spread from Devbhoomi Uttarakhand to the rest of the country and the world. Appreciating the efforts of the Mahavirayatan Foundation in promoting dialogue, moral values, and social harmony, he expressed confidence that the initiative would inspire people across society. He called upon citizens to build an India where dialogue, goodwill, harmony, and non-violence become enduring values.
On the occasion, Cabinet Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat said that even the most complex challenges in life can be resolved through dialogue. He added that the campaign, launched from Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, would provide new energy to society. He also appealed to the public to transform Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Drug-Free Youth–Developed India Pledge Campaign” into a mass movement.
Mahavirayatan Foundation founder Devendra Brahmachari said that Lord Mahavira’s timeless principles are highly relevant in today’s global context. Mahant Rajesh Das, Chandra Kumar Jajotiya, and Dr Prabha Kiran also shared their views during the programme.
The event also featured the release of the book Bharat Gaurav aur Nirgun Chadariya. Individuals who have made outstanding contributions in various fields were honoured with the Shabd Kriti Samman, Lok Seva Gaurav Samman, Mahavir Lokmangal Samman, and Samaj Gaurav Samman.
