Experts deliberate on new technologies for Environment Conservation

International conference begins at Graphic Era

Dehradun, 9 Dec: Experts at Graphic Era deliberated on new technologies for conserving the environment.

An International Conference on Current Environment Technologies for Sustainable Development began at Graphic Era Deemed University, here, today. Prof Sadhan Kumar Ghosh from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, addressed the inaugural session of this conference as the Chief Guest. He emphasised on the need for collaboration between academics, Industry and government to address the issue of environmental conservation. He stressed on the need for more investment for research and development. He said that behavioural changes could help in reducing carbon, water and material footprints.

Guest of Honour, Secretary, Central Irrigation and Electricity Board, Aditya Kumar Dinkar said that the rapid changes in the environment can be addressed by research works, exchange of ideas and collaborative efforts. Vice Chancellor Dr Narpinder Singh said that new technologies should be adopted to tackle issues like increasing temperature, melting glaciers, greenhouse gases. He said that renewable energy technologies, advanced solar panels, geothermal energy, bio energy and IOT enabled systems can act as promising solutions to these problems.

Head, Bureau of Indian Standards, Dehradun, Saurabh Tiwari gave detailed information on product standardisation processes.

A Souvenir and Dr Tony Nader’s book ‘Consciousness is All There Is’ ware launched at the conference. An MoU was also signed between Graphic Era Deemed University and International Society of Waste Management, Air and Water. On this occasion, an Eco-Mela was also organised at which students displayed handmade eco- friendly products such as herbal soap, envelopes and food items.

On the first day of this two-day international conference, 80 papers and 20 posters were presented.

The International Conference was organised by Department of Environmental Sciences. HOD Dr Pratibha Naithani, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Deputy Director Dr Vipin Gupta and Assistant Inspector General Neelima Shah, Convener Dr Suman Naithani, Dean (Projects) Dr Pradeep Kumar Sharma, Prof Archana Bachheti, Organising Secretary Dr Rachan Karmakar, Dr Adhirath Mandal, Saurav Sati, Nikhil Ranjan Behera, faculty members, researchers and students were among those present at the conference.
