DEHRADUN, 13 Jul: The ENT surgeons of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital have been successful in restoring back the hearing capacity of a two & a half year old little girl by carrying out Cochlear Implant surgery. The little girl’s speech was impaired since birth. After the operation, the little girl is now able to hear and is being given speech therapy. The child’s parents are very happy and are thanking the Hospital and ADIP scheme of Govt. of India. This is the first case of Cochlear Implant registered at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital under the ADIP Scheme. She is now able to listen and soon will be able to talk. The Chairman of the Hospital, Shri Mahant Devendra Dass, has extended hearty congratulations to all and showered his divine blessings on the team of doctors who have successfully conducted the child’s operation. He, in his message, has said that ADIP Scheme is proving a ‘Sanjeevani’ for the children of economically weaker sections of Uttarakhand state. He said that the families of children whose speech and hearing are impaired since birth can contact the ENT deptt. of the Hospital to take the advantage of the ADIP Scheme. It is significant to mention that Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital is an empanelled hospital under the ADIP Scheme (Programme of Govt. of India to help the Persons with Disabilities). Under this scheme, Cochlear Implant surgery can be done free of cost which on private rate costs between 10 lakhs to 13 lakhs Rupees. Avni, a two & a half years old little girl, daughter of Sandeep Kumar and Suman Saini, residents of Mohalla Takiyan, Ganesh Chowk, Town Gangoh, P.O. Gangoh, Tehsil Nakur, Saharanpur, was suffering from deafness and dumbness since birth. The parents of the child went to many hospitals but couldn’t get any help because firstly, the required treatment was not available as those hospitals lacked the ENT expertise necessary for doing this Cochlear Implant. Secondly, even if the required treatment was available, treatment at these hospitals was costing at least Ten Lakhs Rupees. Eventually the parents came to Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital’s ENT deptt. for treatment. A successful Cochlear Implant surgery of the little girl was carried out by ENT deptt.’s Dr. (Col.) V.P. Singh, HOD Dr. Tripti Mamgain, Dr. Madhuri, Dr. Tanvi & team. The operation lasted 3 hours. While speaking on the occasion, Dr. (Col.) V.P. Singh, Incharge of ADIP Scheme, Deptt. of ENT informed that the children from economically weaker sections of the society can contact Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital for treatment under the ADIP Scheme.
