CM inaugurates Gauchar Mela

Gauchar, 14 Nov: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the 70th State Industrial Development and Cultural Fair, here, today. On this occasion, the Chief Minister announced that the historical Gauchar Fair Ground would be developed as a mini stadium. He also announced a grant of Rs 10 lakhs for the successful conduct of the Gauchar Fair.

Addressing a huge public meeting at the Mela, the Chief Minister, said that as a result of the coordination among culture, market and industry, this fair is getting increasingly popular and successful every year.

The CM appreciated the district administration for giving a grand and attractive appearance to the fair. He said this unique and historic fair is one of the major fairs of Uttarakhand and that majority of the government departments participated in it. He added that fairs are like rainbow colours in one’s life, which provided freshness and enthusiasm. In ancient times, when there were not many facilities of communication and transport, these fairs greatly helped in weaving the social fabric and expanded the social circle of people. Most of the fairs in India and especially in Uttarakhand had been the medium of cultural reconciliation. The Gauchar Mela was very special because, apart from spreading culture, it also promoted business opportunities for the people here.

The tableaux displayed at this fair had the distinctive and multifaceted culture of Uttarakhand.

The Chief Minister added that one of the major goals of the government is to increase the GDP of Uttarakhand. For this industrial development is crucial. Strengthening of infrastructure is also essential for industrial development. For this, the government is paying special attention to improving road connectivity, rail connectivity, energy, etc. Tourism plays an important role in the social, cultural and economic development of any place while, for Uttarakhand, it is the lifeline. The expansion of road connectivity and air connectivity through the cooperation between the union government and the state government would definitely boost tourism in the state and the economy would also gain.

During the programme, the Chief Minister awarded journalist Ramesh Gairola the  Govind Prasad Nautiyal Patrakar Samman and Anil Negi for running the Youth Foundation. The Chief Minister also released the book, ‘Dhoom Singh Chauhan’, written by Devesh Joshi.

Local MLA Anil Nautiyal and the Mela Vice President Anju Bisht heartily congratulated and welcomed the Chief Minister on inaugurating the Gauchar Fair and briefed him about the problems of the area. They submitted a letter of demands on solving the problems.

On this occasion, Cabinet Minister/District in-charge Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat, Karnaprayag MLA Anil Nautiyal, Tharali MLA Bhupal Ram Tamta, Rudraprayag MLA Bharat Chaudhary, Kedarnath MLA Shaila Rani Rawat, BJP State President Mahendra Bhatt, former MLA Munni Devi Shah, Karnaprayag Development Block Chief Chandreshwari Devi, were among those present.
