Dehradun, 17 Jul: Despite the central law banning instant triple talaq, cases keep cropping up from time to time. A fresh such case has been reported from Dehradun.
A case of triple talaq has been reported to Nehru Colony police station. The complainant has claimed that her husband has not only given her triple talaq but has also thrown her out of the house and taken away their 11 month old son from her care.
On the basis of the woman’s complaint, a case has been registered against her husband and five other accused in Nehru Colony police station. Police have begun investigating the case. According to the police, a woman resident of Sainik Colony Haripur in Navada, here, has filed a complaint with the police in this regard. She has alleged that, on 7 July, she went to her room after feeding her 11-month-old son. During this time, brother-in-law Shahnawaz, mother-in-law Shahnaz, sister-in-law Sultana and father-in-law Nawab Khan caught her from behind and all of them together beat her up. Claiming that she had no right to live in their house anymore, they threw her out and snatched her son from her.
The victim alleged that, before this incident, her husband Shahzad Khan had repeated the word talaq thrice and had also threatened to throw her out of the house. The complainant has reminded the police that the government has banned triple talaq. Despite this, she was given triple talaq forcing her to return to her maternal home. For several days, the woman trued to contact her in-laws to appeal to them to return her son to her. But her in-laws did not even show her son’s face on video calls. Due to these developments, she is very upset and has finally approached the police station to lodge a complaint.
SI Mohan Singh, Officer in charge of the Police Station, Nehru Colony, has confirmed that on the basis of her complaint, a case has been registered against her husband Shahzad Khan, brother-in-law Shahnawaz, mother-in-law Shahnaz, sister-in-law Sultana and father-in-law Nawab Khan on charges of triple talaq, of snatching her 11-month-old son and also for assault. He added that the police are investigating the entire matter from every angle in great detail.
