Dehradun, 19 May: A cyber fraudster, posing as a bank customer care executive, duped a trainee officer of the Indian Forest Service (IFS) of Rs 98,000. The victim was tricked during a phone call in which the scammer convinced her to share the banking details.
According to the information, the officer, Pratiksha Nanasahib Kale, is currently undergoing training at the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy in Dehradun. Pratiksha said she received a new credit card from ICICI Bank on February 15. On March 25, around 6 PM, she got a phone call from a person claiming to be from the bank’s customer care.
The caller told her that a service charge would now be applied as one month had passed since the card was issued. The caller then offered to help her activate the card and set the credit limit. During this process, he fraudulently spent Rs 98,000 from her card.
She reported the incident to the Garhi Cantt police station. The police have registered a case and started an investigation. Inspector KC Bhatt said that efforts are being made to trace the fraudster soon.
