John Martyn Memorial School Library inaugurated

Dehradun, 18 Oct: A charitable primary school for the underprivileged village children, John Martyn Memorial School witnessed a rare event this morning. The old students of The Doon School Class of 1959 spent the morning in the campus reconnecting and reliving old memories. Founded by Mady Martyn, the late Gulab Ramchandani, Head Master of The Doon School (1979-1988), along with Vijayalakshmi Pandit was the Founder Trustee of JMMS. Today, the library was named and dedicated in his memory. For this auspicious occasion, the library was renovated, refurnished and replenished. After receiving and escorting the guests, the students presented a cultural programme including a Kumaoni folk dance and some group songs.
Under the guidance of artist Shefali Chopra Gandhi, Amreen and Abhinav Dangwal, Class V, presented two meaningful poems Pustak and Kitab. The teachers and support staff too rose to the occasion by presenting a song for the guests.
“The Class of 1959 is special for JMMS,” said the MC, “As it includes our Founder Mady Martyn’s son and Trustee, Dilsher Singh Virk.” In addition to the JMMT Patron and Trustees, The Doon School’s old students Sudhir Sharma, Gurnam Singh, Capt Baldev Singh, Capt DPN Singh, Jaisingh, Maj Gen Inderjeet S Dhillon. Vijay M Nath, Lalit Nirula, Ashok Mehra, Maj Khubchand, Arun Bakshi, Pushpender Singh Chopra and Umesh Sahai were also present.
