Dehradun, 6 Nov: Under the Uttarakhand Health System Development Project, the government will soon take control of several medical units, including the Ramdatt Joshi Joint Hospital in Ramnagar, which are currently operating in the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode. The department officials have been instructed to prepare proposals and take necessary action in this regard.
Health and Medical Education Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat stated today that the state government has decided to withdraw all nine medical units operating under the World Bank-supported Uttarakhand Health System Development Project from PPP mode. Recently, the district hospital in Baurari and two other units in Bilkeshwar and Devprayag, located in Tehri Garhwal district, were taken back. Similarly, the Pauri district hospital, Paboun Joint Hospital, Ghandiyal, Ramdatt Joshi Joint Hospital in Ramnagar, Community Health Centres in Bhikiyasain and Bironkhal will also be removed from the PPP mode and brought under government control. Dr Rawat mentioned that clear instructions had been given to departmental officials in this regard.
Dr Rawat explained that there had been persistent complaints from the local population regarding the hospitals operating in PPP mode. Based on these concerns, the state government decided to withdraw these hospitals from the PPP mode and take them over directly to ensure better healthcare services for the local people. He further clarified that, before taking control of these hospitals, a thorough inspection of the medical equipment and infrastructure provided under the project would be conducted, and a transfer process would be completed. All medical equipment and essential materials will remain at the respective medical units, and the officials have been instructed to prepare a detailed inventory of these items. Once the transfer process is complete, the state government will take control of these medical units by December and will deploy doctors and paramedical staff accordingly.
