Rape accused coach sacked; revocation of certificates recommended

Roshanabad, 6 Jan: The services of the coach accused of raping a minor hockey player in Roshanabad, Haridwar, have been terminated. Additionally, a recommendation has been made to revoke the coaching certificates issued to him. On Monday, Sports Minister Rekha Arya visited Haridwar to meet the survivor and her family, assuring them all possible support.

Speaking to the media, Sports Minister Rekha Arya condemned the incident as unforgivable and stated that the accused coach had disgraced his profession. She confirmed that his contract had been immediately terminated. Moreover, the department will send a letter to the Sports Authority of India (SAI), requesting the revocation of the coach’s certificates issued by various organisations. The Minister also mentioned that a public notification would be issued regarding the accused, ensuring that he would not be able to work as a coach anywhere in the country in the future.

Rekha Arya instructed the police team handling the investigation to collect all forensic and other necessary evidence, ensuring a strong case against the accused.
