Dehradun, 20 Feb: The Uttarakhand Government and the Gurdwara Shri Hemkund Sahib Management Trust have announced that the sacred pilgrimage site, Shri Hemkund Sahib, will open for devotees from 25 May.

This decision was made with the government’s approval during a meeting between Chief Secretary Radha Raturi and Narendra Singh Bindra, President of the Gurdwara Shri Hemkund Sahib Management Trust.

The pilgrimage will begin on 25 May and conclude on 10 October, giving devotees nearly five months to visit the holy site.

Shri Hemkund Sahib, located at an altitude of 15,200 feet in Chamoli district, is one of the most revered pilgrimage sites for the Sikh community worldwide. It is believed to be the place where the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, meditated and attained spiritual enlightenment.

This pilgrimage site symbolises spiritual growth, self-discipline, and devotion in Sikhism. The challenging journey to the shrine, which involves traversing difficult terrain and enduring harsh weather conditions, is considered an essential part of the spiritual experience.

“We invite devotees from across the country and the world to visit Shri Hemkund Sahib and experience its sanctity,” said Narendra Jeet Singh Bindra. “The journey to Shri Hemkund Sahib is a unique experience that offers spiritual growth and self-reflection.”

The Uttarakhand Government and the trust have made extensive arrangements to ensure a safe and convenient pilgrimage for devotees. These include: Providing medical facilities and emergency services along the pilgrimage route; Setting up camps and accommodation facilities for devotees; Ensuring an adequate supply of food, water, and other essential items; Deploying security personnel to maintain law and order.
