Dehradun, 27 Oct: BJP state president and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt today welcomed the Uttarakhand Government’s Supplementary Budget for 2026-27 presented in the state assembly today and described it as a significant step towards accelerating development and public welfare.

In a statement issued today, Bhatt said that the supplementary budget of Rs 7,844.18 crores has been prepared keeping in view the state’s development requirements, public welfare programmes and future needs, and will provide both momentum to development works and financial strength to key welfare schemes. With the supplementary budget, the state’s total budget size has increased to Rs 1,19,547.39 crores.

Bhatt said the government’s priority is not merely to increase the size of the budget but to ensure that resources are utilised in accordance with the needs of every region and every section of society. He noted that provisions made for farmers, youth, women, sportspersons, vulnerable groups and the general public reflect the government’s welfare-oriented approach. Referring to major allocations, he said Rs 1,100 crores has been earmarked under the Annapurti Yojana for the procurement of paddy and wheat, while provisions of Rs 70 crore for the climate-resilient rainfed agriculture project, Rs 20 crores for the Deendayal Upadhyaya Cooperative Farmer Welfare Scheme and Rs 9 crores for the Kisan Pension Scheme underline the government’s commitment to the rural economy and farmers’ welfare. He also welcomed the proposal to increase the share of local bodies in state tax revenue from 10.5 per cent to 12.5 per cent.

He said the budget includes important provisions for youth through Rs 5 crores under the Chief Minister Yuva Bhavishya Nirman Yojana for coaching of competitive examinations such as NEET, JEE and CLAT, Rs 8 crore for specialised training camps for athletes and around Rs 35 crore for the Sports University. Bhatt added that adequate importance has also been given to women empowerment, nutrition and social security through allocations for Bhojan Matas’ honorarium, Poshan 2.0, widow pensions and the Chief Minister Vatsalya Yojana. He said provisions for the Atal Ayushman Yojana, Golden Card scheme and medical colleges at Pithoragarh and Rudrapur would further strengthen the state’s healthcare infrastructure.

Highlighting infrastructure development, Bhatt said the budget provides Rs 500 crores for infrastructure projects, Rs 300 crores for pending contractor payments under the Jal Jeevan Mission and Rs 122 crores for the Gairsain Water Supply Dam Project. Allocations for subsidence-related works, energy infrastructure, the forthcoming Divya Kumbh, the Haridwar-Ganga Corridor, the Nanda Raj Jat Yatra, digital learning in schools and higher education, and the new State Data Centre demonstrate the government’s focus on balanced and future-oriented development. He expressed confidence that effective implementation of these provisions would further strengthen infrastructure, social security and public welfare schemes while advancing the goal of making Uttarakhand a developed, self-reliant and prosperous state.
